Pat Sajak mocks ‘Wheel of Fortune’ contestant: ‘So not close’

Pat with the sass.

Pat Sajak mocked a “Wheel of Fortune” contestant who made an incorrect guess on Wednesday night’s episode.

The contestant, Allison, was trying to solve the puzzle phrase, “_ _ _ T S _ N D _ _ G _ R E S,” during the bonus round.

She answered, “Coats And Hangers,” then backtracked and said, “Boats,” before the incorrect buzzer went off.

The correct answer was “Facts And Figures.”

“Ooooh, you were so not close,” Sajak, 77, bluntly told Allison.

She laughed off his insult and said, “I’d rather that be the case, you know?”

“I know, cause then you don’t have to kick yourself for that,” Sajak said.

The game show host opened an envelope to reveal that Allison lost $40,000.

“You did very well,” Sajak said as he shook her hand, revealing that she went home with $14,400.

Fans of the show noted online that Allison’s snafu continued a streak of contestants losing the bonus round during Saja’s final week as host.

“Ugh. 3 bonus round losses this week. 2 more chances left this season with Pat,” a fan wrote in the comments on the YouTube clip of Allison’s bonus round.

“Yuck, another loser and another low winner on Wheel of Fortune, I hope to god Pat Sajak’s final 2 episodes end on a high note,” another fan said.

A different comment read, “And the third bonus loss this week, this one on a gimme. Amazing how this season’s contestants have missed so many layups in the bonus like this and yesterday’s BANK BRANCH ….”

After 41 seasons, Sajak is leaving “Wheel of Fortune” after Friday’s episode and will be replaced by Ryan Seacrest in the fall.

Vanna White is staying with the show as the letter-turner.

Sajak announced his exit from the beloved series last year.

“Well, the time has come. I’ve decided that our 41st season, which begins in September, will be my last,” he tweeted in June 2023.

“It’s been a wonderful ride, and I’ll have more to say in the coming months. Many thanks to you all,” he added.

Sajak recently opened up about his feelings about leaving the show after 40 years in an interview on “Good Morning America.”

“This was announced a long time ago, almost a year ago. So I’ve had time to sort of get used to it. And it’s been a little bit wistful and all that, but I’m enjoying it and taking it all in and reflecting on the great run,” he said.

Sajak also acknowledged that the game show has had a huge impact on society since he started hosting in 1981.

“We became part of the popular culture. And more importantly, we became part of people’s lives,” he said. “And that’s been awfully gratifying.”

Sajak’s final episode on “Wheel Of Fortune” airs Friday, June 7.
