Kelly Clarkson Flubs The Lyrics to Bon Jovi’s “Blaze of Glory”

“That is the song that almost killed me, not even because I can’t sing it, I just can’t read,” Clarkson said

Even a singer as legendary as Kelly Clarkson can have trouble nailing the correct lyrics sometimes.

Clarkson shared a blooper clip on Thursday as she went through a performance of Bon Jovi‘s “Blaze of Glory” for her latest “Kellyoke,” flubbing the words during several takes.

“That is the song that almost killed me, not even because I can’t sing it, I just can’t read, whatever,” Clarkson said as her audience laughed. “I grew up on that song, I know that song. But in rehearsal I messed it up like a gazillion times, not even because I wasn’t hitting the notes. I just kept saying the wrong words. It got so ridiculous I had to let it go like Elsa for a minute and I had someone come rescue me.”

During one of the outtakes, she accidentally says “let the boy like die a man,” and she swore in the next take before letting out a frustrated scream. “Let me fake my final stand? Come on, Clarkson,” she said on a third take as the crowd laughed.

After the blooper reel finished, she eventually bowed down before Jon Bon Jovi himself, who came out and hugged her.

Clarkson’s cover comes as Bon Jovi celebrates their 40th anniversary as a band. They took part in the four-part docuseries Thank You, Good Night: The Bon Jovi Story earlier this year, and they’re set to release their 16th studio album Forever on Friday. They shared the album’s lead single “Legendary” back in March.
