August 30, 2024– Devestating news has shocked the sports world after NHL player Johnny Gaudreau and his brother, Matthew, passed away suddenly- reportedly one day before their sister was set to get married. The duo were set to be groomsmen at the event.

Johnny and his brother Matthew were bike riding in New Jersey on Thursday night, just mere hours before their sister was set to get married the following day. However, Johnny- who plays for the Columbus Blue Jackets- and his brother were both fatally struck by a vehicle while riding.
Who killed Johnny Gaudreau?
According to this article, the men were hit by a man named Sean Higgins- 43- who was driving a Jeep at the time. It is presumed that Higgins was under the influence of alcohol during the time of the accident.
Johnny Gaudreau Cause of Death
Both men were fatally hit by Higgins but the cause of the accident is still being investigated by authorities. In the meantime, Higgins has been charged with two counts of death by auto as outlined here.

Gaudreau left behind a wife and children following the fatal accident. He shared two children- Noa and Johnny- with his wife, Meredith. The duo got married on September 8, 2021, as noted here.
