For the unfamiliar, social media users especially on X/Twitter and Reddit are currently busy taking a jab at a Telugu content creator Praneeth Hanumantu for child s*xual abuse remarks.

Following a widespread internet outrage, the Telangana police have filed an FIR against Telugu YouTuber Hanumantu for his s*xually colored remarks on a reel featuring a man and a child posing as father and daughter.

What Exactly Happened?

Earlier, Praneeth and his friends, who go by the pseudonyms Burra Yuvaraju, Adi, and Dallas Nageshwar Rao, aired a live stream on his YouTube channel ‘Phanumantu,’ s*xualizing the duo’s relationship.

The clip, in which a group of men can be heard making comments that s*xualize a father-daughter bond, led to major online backlash.

Praneeth, whose channel has nearly 182,000 subscribers, has since made the video private, but clips from the live stream were shared on social media platform X, prompting many to demand strict action against him for normalizing child s*xual abuse.

Actor Sai Dharam Tej Calls Out CM of AP & Telangana

The campaign gained momentum after actor Sai Dharam Tej, nephew of Andhra Pradesh Deputy CM and actor Pawan Kalyan, sought the intervention of Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh, N. Chandrababu Naidu, and Telangana, A. Revanth Reddy, on Sunday, Jul 7.

Praneeth is reportedly the son of IAS officer H. Arun Kumar, who serves as the Special Commissioner of Agriculture in Andhra Pradesh. Reports indicate that the YouTuber is based in Andhra Pradesh.

Taking the matter to X, the 37-year-old Indian actor wrote, “This is beyond gruesome, disgusting, and scary.

“Monsters like these go unnoticed on the very much utilized social platform doing child abuse in the disguise of so-called Fun & Dank. Child Safety is the need of the hour,” as he appealed to both state governments to take action.

Actor Nara Rohith, nephew of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, also called for legal action against the YouTubers and suggested the need for regulations on digital content.

What Did the Telangana Police Say?

The Telangana police’s Women’s Safety Wing informed that they have registered a case and promised “strict action.”

As the offender is based in Andhra Pradesh, they are coordinating with their Andhra Pradesh counterparts. Similarly, the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau has also registered an FIR.

Did Hanumantu Apologize?

With mounting criticism, Praneeth initially apologized on July 6, saying he edited out the “problematic part” from the video. On July 7, he released a video apologizing for the content on his Instagram.

Additionally, he claimed his intent was to create “dark comedy” based on a reel, not real people.

Despite hailing from Andhra Pradesh, the FIR was registered by Telangana police after the state CM, A. Revanth Reddy, promised strict action.
