Donald Trump and Kamala Harris are tied in two swing states and separated by small margins in two others, according to a new poll.
The former president, 78, leads the 59-year-old vice president by 1 percentage point in Wisconsin, with Trump garnering 50% support to Harris’ 49% backing, according to a Fox News survey released Friday.
Meanwhile, Harris is ahead of Trump by 6 percentage points in deep-blue Minnesota (52%-46%) — a state that has only gone for a Republican presidential candidate once since 1960, when the majority of Minnesotans preferred Richard Nixon over George McGovern in the 1972 contest.
Both candidates are tied in Michigan and Pennsylvania, the poll found, with each receiving 49% support.
The survey, conducted between July 22-24 (after President Biden dropped out of the 2024 race and endorsed Harris), polled more than 1,000 registered voters in each of the four battleground states.
Voters in all four states said the economy was their top issue in 2024, followed by immigration and abortion. Trump garnered more support than Harris among voters prioritizing the economy and immigration, whereas the vice president picked up more support than the GOP nominee among those who said abortion was their top issue.
The poll found Trump doing as well or better than he did in 2020 in a head-to-head race against Harris, and support for the vice president exceeding what Biden, 81, was receiving in April, in the four swing states.
When third-party candidates were included in the poll, Trump gained the lead in Michigan by 2 points (45%-43%); Harris pulled ahead in Pennsylvania by 2 points (45%-43%); the candidates tied in Wisconsin at 46% apiece; and Harris continued to lead in Minnesota by 6 points (47%-41%).
All four states went to Biden in the 2020 election. Trump won Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania in the 2016 contest.
Biden ended his re-election bid on Sunday after mounting Democratic concerns about his ability to beat Trump in November in light of a disastrous June debate performance that raised questions about his mental acuity and fitness for office.
