Olivia Nuzzi‘s former fiancé Ryan Lizza is speaking out in legal filings and making more claims about Olivia‘s alleged year-long “personal relationship” with former presidential hopeful Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Following a bombshell report that the 31-year-old New York magazine reporter and the 70-year-old politician had been in a relationship, the journalist claimed that her ex Ryan, Chief Washington Correspondent for Politico, harassed and blackmailed her before allegedly leaking the information in order to get back at her.
In new court documents filed this week, Ryan denied the allegations and recalled learning she “had been cheating on me with a married man for almost a year,” via People.

The filing, submitted to Washington DC’s Superior Court, claimed RFK Jr. wanted to “control,” “possess” and “impregnate” her.
He claimed that Olivia described the relationship as “toxic,” “unhealthy,” “stupid,” psychotic,” “crazy,” and “indefensible,” acknowledging the “huge power disparity” between the two, via CNN.
He also said Olivia showed “catastrophically reckless behavior” as RFK allegedly manipulated her throughout their relationship.
Ryan claims he assured Olivia he could “help her get away from the disturbing relationship with her paramour,” and cautioned he “seriously doubted that it was possible for us to have a future together.”
“Ms. Nuzzi resisted any effort to formally end our relationship and she repeatedly asked me for more time to consider our future,” he alleged in his filing. “This remained her position up until the last time we had any discussion about it, on September 15th.”
He reiterated that he never harassed Olivia nor threatened to expose the alleged relationship.
“Everything I know about her affair comes directly from Ms. Nuzzi herself,” he reportedly said in the documents, denying “defamatory lies” that he hacked into her devices, and “threatened physical violence” against her.
He also said he urged her to pay back the advance they received from a book deal claiming this to be “the second presidential cycle in a row where Ms. Nuzzi‘s personal indiscretions have sabotaged our book project,” via CNN. He claims in his filing that she also allegedly had an affair in 2020 that sabotaged their book deal.”
A representative for RFK Jr, via WSJ, said that Ryan‘s account “is not true.” The rep also previously denied the reports of a relationship and said, “Mr. Kennedy only met Olivia Nuzzi once in his life for an interview she requested, which yielded a hit piece.”
A spokesperson for the former presidential candidate told People: “The accusations about Robert Kennedy are categorically false and he will not participate in reporting on triple hearsay allegations made in a dispute between other people.”
A court hearing between the ex-couple is scheduled for next month, according to CNN. Both of them have been placed on leave from their jobs.
