Reports of the PlayStation network being down have been circulating online, in which servers were allegedly down across the entire world.

October 1, 2024– PlayStation users were left shocked Monday night when a massive outage on the Sony gaming network began, causing users unable to play. As this TikTok user @ivangtv claimed in this video update, servers were reportedly down across the world in which no one could allegedly play because of network issues.

As the TikToker explains, Gaming and Social, as well as Account Services, were among those that were down. The tikToker goes on to explain that people reported PlayStation being down on Down Detector 85,000 times in one minute.
Allegedly, users were getting a connection error message and no one could play PlayStation games. This sparked a widespread controversy online in which some alleged theories involved hackers hacking into the network. As one other TikToker (@dyllie_hunts) described in this video, back in 2011 there was an alleged hacking incident with PlayStation in which over 70 million PS3 and PSP accounts were reportedly compromised. This was the result of an “external intrusion.” For 3 weeks, users were supposedly unable to access the Sony network.

However, this latest incident did not last long- as of today, users are able to get online again as noted in this article by The Verge. It has been confirmed that all services are now up and running as of Tuesday morning, just hours after the system reportedly went down.
It is unclear what exactly caused the outage, as the brand has barely addressed the issues on social media.
