Paul Bissonnette trolls Rangers during Game 5 loss: ‘They gave up’

The Garden faithful may have left MSG somberly after the Rangers let a third-period lead slip away in Game 5, but Barstool Sports personality and NHL on TNT analyst Paul Bissonnette reveled in the Blueshirts’ misery in a video posted on X.

Bissonnette has taken his fair share of potshots at the Rangers since the start of the season and did so again on Monday as it became apparent the second-round series against the Hurricanes would go at least six games.

“It’s happening,” the mustachioed Bissonnette gleefully said into the camera after the Canes scored their third goal of the night.

“It’s coming. Game 6 in Carolina,” he continued after letting out a menacing laugh. “Five-on-five, if they stay disciplined, we got ourselves a series.”

Bissonnette, who has relished the role of being the villain to both Rangers and Islanders fans, continued to poke fun at the situation, posting that the “MSG crowd booing the team” and calling the Rangers’ 20 shots on net a “spanking.”

“Bang bang bang. Hurricanes chase half the fans with 5 minutes left,” he wrote on X. “They gave up. Hurricanes fans, show the hockey world how it’s done game 6 Thursday. Don’t give up. This is going 7 with your help.”

Bissonnette had been chastising the Rangers long before the Game 5 loss on Monday night, starting back in September before the start of the regular season when he called the Blueshirts “fugazis” during an episode of his popular hockey podcast, “Spittin’ Chiclets.”

The former NHLer went as far as to call the Rangers and their fans “frauds” and predicted they wouldn’t make the playoffs.

The Rangers have gone on to win the President’s Trophy this season and are still ahead of the Hurricanes 3-2 in the best-of-seven series.

A clip posted to X by the “Spittin’ Chiclets” podcast account, featured Bissonnette talking about five-on-five play being key to the Hurricanes staying alive in the series, and in true wrestling heel fashion, bringing back up the unflattering nickname he had previously given the Rangers.

“Mark my words baby, this could go seven and we could see the fugazis show back up,” he said in the clip.

Game 6 will take place on Thursday in Raleigh.
