The credits of Lana Del Rey and Quavo’s song reveal a lengthy list of writers, notably Maddox Watson. The 14-year-old country musician signed with William Morris Endeavor in May. The Birmingham Alabama resident went viral on TikTok with his country song covers, leading him to garner millions of followers across his social media. He has released two singles so far, both with over a million views on YouTube.

We don’t know how much of the lyrics he wrote. However, Batson attributes inspiration from his father for his part in creating the single. He further thanks Del Rey and Quavo for including him in the writing process, sharing snippets of him singing the chorus and what appears to be a behind-the-scenes photo of him working with the song’s team.

Another notable writer shared on his Instagram his behind-the-scenes contribution as well. Clayton Johnson, known for his heated breakup with Lana back in 2021, was also credited for the song’s production. He states in his post’s bio the song was synthesized in Nashville at the start of this year, sharing his snippet of the chorus too.

The collaborative single was announced back in February and premiered at Lana’s Fenway Park show in June. The duo sings about the struggles of substance abuse, family, and love, telling listeners how the hardships of life “toughens” oneself. The country-rap fusion also conveys the classic American lifestyle through its word choice. This led fans to speculate the track may be part of Lana’s upcoming country album titled Lasso.
