Jamal Adams’ sad run with Titans ends with birthday release

Jamal Adams got his birthday wish.

The Titans released the former Jets safety, who turned 29 on Thursday, after he requested that they do so, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported.

Adams played in three of six games for the woeful Titans, recording four tackles on 20 snaps. NFL.com noted that Pro Football Focus had given an Adams an unimpressive 49.8 mark on those limited plays.

Adams is healthy, according to Schefter, and “looking forward to his next opportunity.”

The question now becomes, is another opportunity coming?

Adams was released by the Seahawks last offseason and has seen a significant falloff in his play from when he was All-Pro three straight seasons from 2018-’20.

Adams was seeing limited playing time for a 1-4 Titans team that is among the NFL’s worst.

Adams’ exit from the team was foreshadowed when the Titans curiously moved him to the reserve/non-football injury list on Saturday even though he had already been declared out with a hip injury for the Week 6 game against the Colts.

“There’s some things we’re working through that are still kind of ongoing. I’ll let that one go for now,” Titans coach Brian Callahan told reporters on Wednesday after the 20-17 loss to Indianapolis.

Adams signed a one-year, $1.1 million deal with Tennessee this offseason.

The Jets drafted Adams with the No. 6 overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft and he was one of the stars and leaders on the defense for three seasons.

The Jets then traded Adams before the 2020 season to the Seahawks for two first-round draft picks, a third-round pick and safety Bradley McDougald.
