Did Trump Blame Video Games

As shown in this video posted on X by user @David_Leavitt, Trump can be seen making a statement about video games. In the clip, he says, “We must stop the glorification of violence in our society.” He goes on to state, “This includes the gruesome and grizzly video games that are now commonplace.” He goes on to allege, “It is too easy today for common youth to surround themselves with a culture that celebrates violence.”

Trump’s statements surrounding video games have sparked alleged widespread concern online in which users are claiming that this could mean he wants to impose a ban on video games with violence in the USA.

Did Trump Claim Video Games Cause Violence

Although Trump has not explicitly said this, his latest statements have sparked subsequent controversy online, especially in the gaming community.

Reasons for the government seemingly wanting to create a ban on violent video games can include concerns over public safety. For example, exposure to violent video games may desensitize players to violence. As well, there can be concerns surrounding its influence on youth and cultural values.

Although there is no concrete evidence to support claims that Trump is actually banning video games if he comes into power, his statements have since sparked concern online.

This has caused other outlets to investigate the viral video’s whereabouts. According to this article, this video clip is from 2019 so it is not recent. However, Trump did not insinuate a ban, only supposedly blaming the video games for the alleged violence when reportedly discussing shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio that occurred during that time.

Even though this viral video is circulating now despite it being old, Reddit users have taken to the platform to discuss the claims, adding in some humor.

Following Trump’s recent presidential campaign, he has not spoken out against video games.
