I ordered a cute cake for my 21st birthday, it looked nothing like how it was advertised

A woman’s excitement for her 21st birthday turned into sheer disappointment when the birthday cake she received was a far cry from what was promised.

It was *Alice’s 21st birthday, and the Australian woman hoped to find a cute vintage cake for her party.

So, when she stumbled across a local baker online who offered the exact cake she was hoping for, it seemed like a dream come true.

That was until she got her hands on the actual cake.

“The cake was NOTHING like the photo that was advertised”

Shared in a Facebook group, Alice’s friend decided to blast the baker for their botched recreation of the cake.

The plan was set; Alice sent the baker a private message on Facebook asking for the price of a “heart-shaped cake to feed eight people.”

Pictured was an adorable vintage-style cake with the letters “HBD” placed on top.

“[Alice] messaged a woman with a cake business and asked if she was available, and attached a photo of a cake the woman advertised on her Facebook,” her friend posted.

She also asked if the “HBD” could be changed to “21”, which was no issue to the baker.

At first, everything seemed fine.

Then came the red flags.

“She had to pay upfront,” her friend explained. “And the lady never sent her photos beforehand.”

By the time her cake was ready to be collected, Alice asked her boyfriend to complete the task.

“When he picked it up, it was NOTHING like the photo that was advertised,” the post read.

And her friend wasn’t wrong; it was a completely different cake.

“The colour was completely off, the numbers were massive and painted roughly (as you can see from the side the “gold” doesn’t cover the entire numbers), and the shape is off,” she said.

Like … I’m sorry, but this is shocking. Honestly, it looks like someone tried to recreate the cake from memory.

If you thought that was bad, just wait, because it’s only going to get worse from here on out.

“After the ever-so-carefully-driven five-minute drive home, the cake fell apart into big chunks,” Alice’s friend said, horrified.

There, the birthday girl discovered the inside of the cake was “extremely hard on the inside” and, therefore, completely “unsalvageable.”

The cake was in such bad shape that Alice had no choice but to put the entire cake in the bin.

Heartbroken and outraged about her disastrous cake, Alice reached out to the baker to vent her frustrations, accusing the baker of “false advertising” and demanding a refund.

The baker’s response? “My refund policy is it must be returned the same day.”

It wasn’t until Alice’s friend stepped in and complained further that the baker changed their mind, and began the refund process.

Alice then had to purchase a last–minute cake from another (reputable) baker, so, thankfully, this story has a happy ending.

“When you lie on your resume to get the job”

It’s safe to say Alice and her friend weren’t the only ones enraged by the botched birthday cake, with some people labelling the baker’s attempt as “laughable.”

“Crikey, this is a crime scene,” someone said. “What in the atrocity of a cake is that supposed to be,” asked another.

“My 10-year-old son could do better and he can’t even spread toast,” laughed a third.

“Looks like she got it from Wish. Damn.”

“When you lie on your resume to get the job,” another joked.

Others saw the red flags from a mile away, arguing the original photo was created using AI.

“The first cake is 100 per cent not her work, clearly,” read a comment. “She has no idea what she’s doing.”

“Am I the only one that thinks this actually looks like it was AI-generated?” asked another.

“As a baker and cake maker myself, there is NO way in hell I’d let someone leave with a cake that looked like that,” a woman chimed in.

“I’d rather lose money and start again than sell something like that.”
