Dane Cook shades Ben Affleck rant at Tom Brady Netflix roast

Comedian Dane Cook had a lot to say about Netflix’s Tom Brady roast.

After attending the roast in Los Angeles on May 5, Cook, 52, made a TikTok where he gave other comedians who participated in the roast their props, including Nikki Glaser and host Kevin Hart.

“Across the board, everybody brought the house down,” he said in his video, which surpassed over 3 million views.

“I’ve never seen so many people at a roast, and I’ve never seen so many roasters crush [it],” Cook added. “I thought every single person on the roast seriously did great.”

However, Cook had some critiques for Ben Affleck, who went on a strange rant during the roast where he called out social media users who criticize Brady, 46.

“Put this rumor to rest first. Ben Affleck didn’t bomb because Ben Affleck was not funny. Ben Affleck’s really funny,” Cook explained. “We’ve seen him on late-night talk shows, the Dunkin’ commercial, and stuff like that. He could be funny.”

Cook continued, “He decided to deliver a monologue that just…it didn’t work. He was tied into it for about four to five minutes, and about 40 seconds in it was clear it just wasn’t the right choice.”

The “Mr. Brooks” star said that Affleck, 51, should’ve wrapped up his roast once he realized the audience wasn’t digging his rant. Cook said the speech “was such a bad look” for Affleck, who “gets pig piled on for so much for so many things.”

“But fellow Boston guy, I think he’s a tremendously talented guy,” Cook added about Jennifer Lopez’s hubby. “He’s a tremendously gifted performer. But that was just not his night. He came in last place.”

Affleck got roasted himself on social media following his perplexing rant. On X, formerly known as Twitter, one user compared his speech to a “car crash.”

Fans also accused Affleck of undergoing plastic surgery prior to the Netflix special.

“Ben Affleck’s face lift looks insane,” somebody wrote on X.

Insiders later told the Daily Mail that Affleck did not get plastic surgery before the roast.

A second source added, “Ben has been blasted over and over and over for last few decades about everything, this is nothing new. And now that people think he has had a face lift is just a joke.”

In the days that followed the roast, Cook made more TikToks recapping his experience at the event. He revealed in one of the videos that he had a brief interaction with Brady backstage after the live taping.

“I’m walking backstage, and clearly his demeanor is very low-key,” Cook recalled of seeing the retired athlete. “I hear somebody saying, ‘Are you gonna hang out?’ He’s like, ‘Nah, I’m still on East Coast time.’ You knew he was just trying to get to the exit. He turns around, he sees me, I reach out, I say, ‘Tom that was epic.’ Deadpan, he goes, ‘Thanks man. I appreciate it.’ “

“That’s it,” Cook said. “There was no bro hugs. There was no small talk. Tom Brady wanted to get out.”

“The Roast of Tom Brady” is streaming now on Netflix.
