This isn’t the breakout season Breece Hall envisioned.
Through four games, he has yet to bust out, and Sunday was the worst production yet.
Hall managed just 18 yards of offense on 12 touches in the Jets’ 10-9 loss to the Broncos at MetLife Stadium, had two penalties, dropped a pass and missed a key block in a forgettable performance.
“I wish I could’ve been better,” the standout running back said. “Whether it’s putting my head down and sticking my head in there and trying to get the dirty yards or whatever the case may be. At the end of the day, I’m my biggest critic, so I felt like I could’ve been better at helping out the [offensive] line today, helping them set their blocks better.”
Hall has yet to rush for more than 62 yards in a game, and has scored three touchdowns.
With a healthy Aaron Rodgers and a rebuilt offensive line, he was supposed to have more room to work with.
But so far, that hasn’t been the case.
“I wish I could tell you [what’s wrong]. My teammates know how much I put into it. And I know how much they put into it, as well,” Hall said. “For me personally, I try to go out and do my 1/11th every play. Unfortunately for me, I haven’t been having the big rushing games and stuff like that.
“But I just try to do my part, do my part in pass [protection], do my part in play fakes, communicating with Aaron [Rodgers], communicating with the offensive line, if I have to be in the receiving game. Obviously, I wish I could run for 100 yards, 200 yards every game. But realistically right now, I’m the focal point of most defenses. So it’s just really not happening.”
Hall was also called for two pre-snap penalties.
He was admittedly anxious in trying to help protect Rodgers.
“When a team blitzes a lot, they’re trying to time up the snap with the cadence and everything like that,” he said. “So for me, when you have to block a guy in the ‘A’ gap and he’s timing up the snap when you’re 5, 6 yards back, you’re trying to close the space and trying not to let him gain any ground on you. I would say I was definitely a little antsy today trying to do my best in pass protection.”
