Bizarre choice of players, merch used to promote Mets’ London games

That’s not so Amazin’.

As the Mets and Phillies prepare for their two-game set as part of the London Series this week, one eagle-eyed Mets fan’s X post revealed unusual advertising for the event.

A poster outside the New Era Carnaby store in London promoted the series with an unlikely trio of Mets relievers: Reed Garrett, Adam Ottavino and … Jake Reed.

While Garrett and Ottavino are both on the Mets’ active roster, the same cannot be said for Reed.

Reed has not pitched for the Mets since the 2022 season and accumulated an unsightly 8.18 ERA in nine total appearances with the team.

Reed appeared in nine games with the Mets across the 2021-22 seasons, pitching to an unsightly 8.18 ERA.

The 31-year-old righty is a free agent, with his most recent MLB action coming last season with the Dodgers.

He allowed six earned runs in his lone appearance of the season — which lasted 2/3 of an inning.

Even the selection of Garrett and Ottavino was panned given that the Mets’ roster boasts All-Stars Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso and Edwin Diaz.

By contrast, a promotional poster in the store showcased Phillies All-Stars Trea Turner and Kyle Schwarber.

When the X user Mets Jr. said they returned to the store the following day, Reed’s moment of Mets nostalgia was over as the display had been taken down.

The user also posted about a Hawaiian shirt for sale that featured both the Mets and Phillies team logos.

Some X users did not take it too kindly to the rivals being paired on one piece of attire.

“A war crime,” one user said.

“Blasphemy! Those logos should never be together,” said another.

The London Series kicks off on Saturday at 1:10 p.m. ET as left-hander Sean Manea is set to pitch for the Mets opposite fellow lefty Ranger Suarez.
