Tell us about how you got started in the music industry- what sparked your passion for singing and songwriting?
I feel like my first step into the industry was after a video went viral online of my bandmates and I singing an acoustic cover. That catapulted our audience, connections & opportunities.
As far as my passion, I was as young as 6 when I knew I LOVED and NEEDED music. The older I got the truer it became that I had to make it my life.
Your highly-anticipated single, “What Am I Looking For?” came out September 6- what can you tell us about the song?
“What Am I Looking For?” is a vulnerable ballad.
I’ve always been active when it comes to showing my highlights and writing music that was fun and about love but haven’t ever touched on the things that I personally struggle with.
This song is about my struggle with addiction.
“What Am I Looking For?” is not just a song; it’s a powerful statement of her resilience, talent, and unwavering dedication to your craft. Can you explain to us what this means?
I reached a point in my life where I needed to ask for help.
I was embarrassed because I always felt like I had to keep everything together or at least look like I was. I hit bottom and thank god for the people around me who helped get me back up. WAILF is a self-reflection piece, because sometimes we need to look at the parts of ourselves that might feel ugly but it’s what makes us all human.
Can you talk to us about the obstacles you have had to overcome to make and release your art?
Every person runs into obstacles when chasing their goals. Leaving home young and finding my path included homelessness, broke just to reach a point of success then facing drug addiction mid-pandemic.
They haven’t been easy, to say the least, but I’ve learned a lot about myself and I guess life through the ups and downs. It has made me just trust the ride. What goes up must come down- even when the good times are here, everything can change so quickly. Every experience has only added to my creativity and my art. I am just thankful to still be able to participate.
How do you hope to inspire your fans?
I hope to inspire my fans to keep going, even if it feels like sometimes you’re crawling.
Existing on this planet is hard and you’re not alone in feeling that. You’re not alone. The whole “don’t worry there’s light on the other side” feels condescending but there really is light. It just doesn’t last as long but it comes back more and more.
Just keep going!
What’s next for you?
What’s next for me? Regular covers throughout my platforms and more originals coming early next year.
I’ve found a good stride for me so just expect to see more of me around.
