The Jets begin a two-day mandatory minicamp on Tuesday.
It is their last activity before a six-week break until training camp.
The minicamp won’t provide too many answers about the 2024 season.
It is a noncontact camp and players are not in pads other than helmets so it is more like a seven-on-seven passing camp than real football.
Still, the players will be on the field and we’ll get an early glimpse at this year’s team.
Here are five things I’ll be looking for over the next two days:
Rodgers’ mobility post-injury
There are no questions about Aaron Rodgers’ arm.
He has been zipping passes in OTAs with ease, and he has a “Wow” moment in every single practice.
The question about Rodgers post-Achilles surgery is going to be his mobility. Can a 40-going-on-41 Rodgers move well enough to protect himself from big hits?
We won’t fully get the answer here, because the defense is not allowed to lay a finger on him in these practices.
But we should get a better sense of his movement. Is he able to escape the pocket when he has to?
Does he look hesitant to tuck the ball and run?
Rodgers has looked like himself during the OTA practices, but the intensity gets ramped up a little in these minicamp sessions.
Reddick’s participation
There is not much unrest in Jetsland these days but one big question is whether Haason Reddick is going to show up after skipping the voluntary spring program.
The Jets traded for the edge rusher at the end of March after he was vocal about wanting a new contract from the Eagles.
The assumption is that he is unhappy about his current contract and wants the Jets to address that, although Reddick has not said anything publicly.
If Reddick does not show, the Jets can fine him.
If he does show up, the question then is how much he will even be able to do.
The Jets are going to be hesitant to throw him into practices after he skipped everything up to now.
Even if he has been working out on his own, the Jets likely will be cautious with how much Reddick is allowed to do.
Offensive line feeling up to it
The health of the offensive line was one of the biggest storylines around the 2023 Jets and likely will be again in 2024.
So, let’s get it started.
We have not seen the complete offensive line in OTAs and likely won’t see it in minicamp.
But how many pieces will be missing?
Right guard Alijah Vera-Tucker and right tackle Morgan Moses are both recovering from surgeries and are not expected to participate.
Left guard John Simpson sat out some OTAs but has been practicing recently.
Left tackle Tyron Smith got a day off last week while the media was watching and it would not be a shock if the Jets held him back a little in minicamp to keep the 33-year-old fresh.
This could lead to more reps for rookie Olu Fashanu as well as backups Max Mitchell, Carter Warren and Wes Schweitzer.
The offensive line needs time to jell before the regular season.
That won’t come now but there is still plenty of time in training camp.
Closer look at Lazard
Allen Lazard had a dismal first season with the Jets after signing a four-year, $44 million contract in 2023.
The question now is whether the return of Rodgers will help him put that season behind him and regain the form he showed in Green Bay.
So far, it has not looked good this spring.
He has dropped passes and there have not been many highlights.
Maybe he changes that this week.
Hall’s passing game role
Running back Breece Hall has been dealing with some “lower-half stuff,” according to coach Robert Saleh, that has kept him out of practice when the media has been watching.
If he returns this week, I would expect to see him catching a lot of passes out of the backfield.
That should be a key piece of the offense this year, and it would be nice to see a glimpse of it here.
