Ghanaian gospel singer Empress Gifty’s team has finally addressed the reason behind her absence from Nana Ama McBrown’s Onua Showtime and it’s nothing to do with any feud or disagreement.
In a recent interview on Hitz FM, Empress Gifty’s publicist, Edem Tsotorme, explained that her non-appearance on the show was due to an unexpected family emergency.
After performing at a thanksgiving ceremony for Despite Media’s mother-in-law, Empress Gifty received some bad news—her daughter had fallen ill the same day.

According to Tsotorme, Empress Gifty had to rush to Akosombo in the Eastern Region, where her daughter’s school is located.
“She was immediately called that her daughter had fallen ill, so she rushed to the school. The situation worsened, and they had to transfer her to Tema,” he explained.
Tsotorme added that Empress Gifty stayed at the hospital with her daughter until Monday morning, when she was finally able to leave.
He also revealed that during the chaotic situation, Empress Gifty lost her phone, which made it difficult for her to communicate with anyone, including McBrown’s production team.

“I was the one who called McBrown’s team around 5:58 pm to explain what had happened,” Tsotorme said.
Tsotorme confirmed that Empress Gifty’s daughter is now recovering and responding well to treatment, and the family is hopeful for a full recovery soon.
Background of their feud
The tension between the two began when Empress Gifty launched a new cooking show on UTV, which replaced “McBrown’s Kitchen” after McBrown’s departure to Media General.
McBrown criticised what she saw as “copycats” entering the cooking show space, asserting her dominance.
This led to a series of jabs exchanged between the two, further fuelled by allegations that McBrown had repeatedly overshadowed Empress Gifty’s opportunities, including the “Onua Showtime” program.
The rivalry has sparked discussion among their fans on social media.
